The Burslem Port Trust has been formed to effect the re-opening of the Burslem Branch (or arm) of the Trent and Mersey Canal, which was first opened in 1805 and closed in 1961 following a breach.
The Trust’s vision is to make a major difference to the quality of life in Burslem and Middleport through a major regeneration project which will extend from Rogerson’s Meadows and the Trent and Mersey Canal to Furlong Mills in lower Burslem. The completed project will deliver the re-opened Canal Branch, a mini Marina in a newly constructed pool at Furlong Mills, recreational facilities in the “Heritage” buildings on the present Waste Transfer Site, and outdoor/sporting activities along the canal side. The project will provide Canal side living for the Slater Street and Co-op Bakery residential redevelopment sites. The potential for the project is immense.

It is important to us when speaking to funding organisations and others to be able to demonstrate the support that our project has from the local community and visitors to the area. We would appreciate it if you would take a moment add your name to our list of supporters by completing the form on this page.
